An agent is not an agent
As our world changes, so too can the meaning of words. From mice to mobiles, we use existing words to help explain new technologies.
Resulting in fresh possibilities – combined with added confusion. As false assumptions and misleading comparisons are made. Until the unfamiliar becomes familiar. And we all understand that a mouse is not a mouse.
Just as an agent is not an agent.
An AI agent is not the same as a human agent. Digital labour is not the equivalent of human labour. And artificial intelligence is not the same as human intelligence.
As our workflows shift to take advantage of these powerful new technologies, the social dynamics within our workplaces will become even more critical. For example, try asking an AI agent to take personal responsibility for an answer given or action taken.
Which means in a future of AI agents, organisational success will ultimately depend on the ever-evolving skills of our human agents. Leading the way. Making decisions. Taking responsibility.
Caring about outcomes in a way only people can.
Giving us all greater…
Agency.
