Are you accountable?

It’s now commonly said that judgement is a uniquely human skill for the future of work.

What’s missing from this insight is the qualifier of “good” judgement – which doesn’t happen by default – along with the critically linked concept of accountability.

We all make judgements constantly, now with the added complexity that we have to judge which of the human and machine recommendations to follow. Even more important than the judgements we make, are the resulting outcomes and impacts on ourselves and others that we’re deciding on behalf of.

No machine can or ever will be accountable for the decisions we make, so this will always be a uniquely human capability. To be accountable.

Account-able. Not just able to count.

But able to be

Counted

On.
