Artificial Decisions

As a Futurist, it’s literally my job to see ahead.

Not just to look forward but to see forward, by making sense of complex shifts. In ways that help others move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

Including you.

So here’s something to confidently see with greater clarity this year:

Artificial Intelligence is not your digital colleague, teammate or coworker. It’s not even digital labour.

It is a vital technological tool powered by an ecosystem of very powerful intelligence platforms. That are fundamentally reshaping the way we work.

We work. Not they work.

Buying into the superficially believable narrative that AI is like us, is causing leaders to make misguided decisions. Whether it’s believing that AIs are literally reading all the sources they authoritatively quote (often they’re not), or that autonomous agents will be able to do everything your team can – for example, they’ll never take personal accountability for a wrong decision made.

Even more importantly, at a societal level the misguided belief that AIs are human-equivalents, is already having deeply personal impacts. From teenagers becoming more isolated to parents believing synthetic media.

As a Future Ready Leader be very clear – the problem is not the technology.

It’s how we use it. Think about it. Talk about it.

Lead with.

It.
