Who’s smarter?

Who’s smarter – you, or all the paper in the world?

It’s difficult to answer because it’s not a question we ask of ourselves.

It doesn’t even really make sense. Even though all the paper in the world holds far more knowledge than any one of us can ever know.

Who’s smarter – you, or the internet?

Again it’s not a question we typically ask, as it’s comparing two fundamentally different things. With those facts now in mind, here’s a defining question of our era:

Who’s more intelligent – you, or AI?

Just because generative AI now enables our devices to contextually relay information through natural text and voice (which our brains all too easily mistake for human conversation) does not mean AI is a conscious being, comparable to our own full set of capabilities.

It’s not.

Looking back, society soon realised the invention of photography didn’t mean that photos were capturing our souls. Looking forward, mythology and false beliefs can lead smart people to make unwise decisions about technological shifts.

The sooner we all fully comprehend the true nature of the changes occurring, the faster we can design workflows that truly make the most of these powerful new capabilities.

In other words, making the most of the tools and critically – our own new skills developed in response.

Now that would be truly

Intelligent.
